Making the Media Center Great Again!
What’s Been Going on in the Media Center?
In 2016 we had 4,843 students come through the media center!!!
Google Training was held on November 30th in the media center. 2 teachers and 1 administrator attended.
1 Chromebook cart was created and sent to Mrs. Gordon’s room for RTI. These 26 CB’s can now be utilized by other teachers since they are now on a portable cart. We are working on getting more CB’s and carts.
Mrs. Daughtrey manages the CHS social media pages with any current events going on.

We started a Media Center incentive program for the person who visits the Media Center the most that month. Elivia Peterson was the winner for November. Her name was announced on the morning announcements and she got to pick out a prize.
The Media Center has a full set of Chromebooks available to make another classroom set for testing purposes. We hosted Mr. May, Mr. Judge, Mr. Dobson, and Mrs. Williams classes the week of December 5th.
Mrs. Kendal Daughtrey will be teaching a Internet and Social Media Safety course for any teachers who would like to bring their class.
SAT, ACT, ASVAB, and Accuplacer test prep books are re-stocked in the Media Center and ready to be checked out. We also tutor and coach students on their goals for after graduation.
The Media Center Coffee shop sells coffee, hot chocolate, and small pastries on Fridays. The money goes right back to the Media Center for fun events like #hourofcode.
The #hourofcode is the largest documented learning event in history (code.org). The CHS Media Center hosted in conjunction with Computer Science Awareness week December 5-9. Candy, Prizes, Certificates, and a Photo was taken.
Direct TV goes to school program has been a big hit for our students. 2 Boxes are installed in the Media Center. We were able to record the Presidential Debates for Mrs. Kroll’s class and they came and watched it the next day. We have another box that is in the lunchroom.
Kindle Paperwhites previously purchased by the school have now been utilized in the Media Center and are available for checkout by students or teachers. The new Harry Potter book is one of the books now available. (Students must have a signed form on file stating the responsibility they accept).
We have been working on updating the computers in the Media Center. We now have 10 new Chrome Bases purchased from 2015-2016. These new computers are super fast, great for class projects, and gaming.
The Clothes Closet has been a huge success thus far. We continue to provide clothes for for those in need and have accommodated several dress code violations as well. Clean gently used clothes are accepted. We request donations from teachers and friends. Walmart donated the clothes hangers.

A Photo Booth has been added to the Media Center for students to take and post photos with #hornetselfie. This is something fun for students and staff.
We have media center assistants that have been very helpful to us in getting the projects completed above.
